South Rim + Page Itinerary
The South Rim and Page pair efficiently because Desert View Drive and the East Entrance can become part of the transfer rather than a separate out-and-back scenic drive. The strongest itinerary uses geography to reduce backtracking and gives Page enough time for the experiences that brought you there.
Lipan Point Is Temporarily Closed
Desert View Drive and the East Entrance remain useful for this itinerary, but NPS currently lists Lipan Point and Lipan Point Road as closed through December 23, 2026 for rehabilitation. Build the transfer around other east-side overlooks and Desert View rather than treating Lipan Point as a required stop.
Use the East Entrance as the Connection
If you are moving between the South Rim and Page, avoid returning through the South Entrance unless conditions or your lodging require it. Desert View Drive lets you combine viewpoints, Desert View Watchtower and the transfer toward Cameron and Page in one logical direction.
Day One: South Rim
Use the central South Rim and either Hermit Road or a shorter village-focused day. Stay at or near the rim if possible so you can enjoy evening light without immediately beginning the longer drive toward Page.
Desert View Drive + Page
Travel east through the park, stop selectively along Desert View Drive, then continue through Cameron toward Page. Save enough daylight and energy for the Page activity that matters most rather than arriving after a full day of unnecessary Grand Canyon stops.
Give Page Its Own Full Day
Three days makes the pairing much stronger. Use one South Rim day, one transition day via Desert View, and one Page-focused day. This creates room for major reservations or excursions without sacrificing the Grand Canyon to a rushed transfer schedule.
Use Gateway Stops Selectively
Cameron can be a practical meal, fuel or cultural stop along the route. Treat it as part of the drive when it adds value. Do not force every gateway community into the itinerary simply because you pass the turnoff.
Short River Trips Fit This Route Well
If you want time on the Colorado without committing to a multi-day Grand Canyon expedition, Page-area smooth-water trips can fit naturally into this itinerary. Keep the location clear: these trips use the Glen Canyon/Page corridor rather than the whitewater section inside Grand Canyon National Park.
Desert View Is Enough Grand Canyon for the Drive Day
Once you have already spent a proper day on the South Rim, the east-side transfer does not need to repeat every central viewpoint. Let Desert View Drive be the scenic transition and save energy for Page.
Book Page Experiences Before the Final Route
If a timed or limited-capacity Page activity is central to the trip, secure it first and then work backward to determine when you should leave the South Rim. Do not discover after arrival that your preferred activity cannot fit the transfer day.
Expect Different Conditions
The South Rim is much higher than Page. Temperatures, wind and winter road conditions can be very different within the same day, so check both locations separately.
South Rim → Desert View → Cameron → Page Is the Natural Flow
Use the road to advance the trip instead of returning over the same ground. Two days can work. Three gives each destination the breathing room it deserves.
